This 1-day multidisciplinary course applies the principles and techniques of problem-solving. It is useful for anyone who works in or manages a team in any business function. It is built on two antagonistic approaches – analytical versus creative problem-solving. There are 6 steps to analytical problem-solving: identifying and defining the problem; generating possible solutions; generating and evaluating alternatives; deciding on a solution; implement the solution and evaluating the outcome. On the other hand, creative problem-solving is premised on methods such as Creative Problem-Solving (CPS), brainstorming and Dr Edwards De Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats, among others.

Management is fundamentally about solving problems. Problem-solving involves understanding what is happening in a project, identifying opportunities for positive change, and devising solutions to reach desired goals.  In today’s organisations where problems occur ever so rapidly and concurrently, problem-solving has become the basis for continuous improvement and learning. As such, it can be applied to any department where a team needs to work together to meet goals and alleviate challenges.
